Of the approximately 602,095 housing units in Allegheny County, some 51,082 are vacant¹. That means about 8.4% of our neighborhoods are unsafe, unfinished, and underserved. In Westmoreland County, the estimate lands closer to 8.9%². These vacancy rates, which don't include all blighted/abandoned households, are cause for concern – they contribute to high taxes in developing communities and safety issues across the county.
Meanwhile, homeless and socioeconomically underpriveleged demographics often lack the resources to improve their lives and situations because they lack a place where that improvement can happen – a home.
